For one of the best free views in Port Douglas, make your way up to the Four Mile Beach Lookout on Flagstaff Hill. The sweeping views over the beach, the Coral Sea, and the palm-fringed coastline are well worth it, especially in the early morning or late afternoon when the light is soft and golden. If you’re on the beach facing the ocean, walk left towards the cliffs, you’ll find a stairway to the lookout.

Insider tip: If you’re staying near Murphy Street and Owen Street, you can skip the stairs and take the back way instead. From Owen Street, head right on Murphy Street, walk up the small hill, and keep right where the road splits. You can’t take a car though, but walking is ok. You’ll come to a trail, head right and find two different lookouts. The second one has the famous view. From there, you can take the steps down to the beach. 

This is one of the easiest and most rewarding things to do in Port Douglas. Four Mile Beach is long, beautiful, and ideal for a morning walk or sunset stroll. The palm trees, the light, the mountain backdrop, and the wide open sand make it feel cinematic in the best way. It’s the kind of place where you naturally exhale.
