Getting There

To get to Fiji from the US, you will need to make your way to the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The main international gateway to Fiji is Nadi International Airport (NAN). Upon arrival, you will be greeted by the warm Bula spirit of the Fijian people. From Nadi, you can easily access the beautiful Mamanuca, Yasawa, and other islands via boat or seaplane.

Transportation

While in Fiji, transportation options to your resort include:

  • Car Rentals: Ideal if you’re staying on the main island of Viti Levu. A car rental allows you to have a day out and explore the inland and coastal scenery of the island. Ask your About Australia Travel Advisor for more information on renting a car in Fiji.

  • Private and Seat-In-Coach Shuttles: Widely available for pre-booking to meet you at the Nadi Airport. We always include airport transfers to your hotel from the Nadi Airport in our Fiji packages.

  • Boats and Ferries: If your resort is on a different island, you will need to book a ferry or boat to take your from the Nadi Aiport to your next destination. We include all airport transfers, including boat or ferry transfers, needed as part of our Fiji packages.

  • Sea Planes and Helicopters: For a grand entrance to your next Fiji island destination from Nadi, sea planes and helicopters are also available departing from the airport. Our Fiji packages can be upgraded to include flight transfers on request.

Best Time to Visit Fiji

The best time to visit Fiji generally falls during the dry season, which spans from May to October. During these months, expect pleasant temperatures, minimal rainfall, and lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities like snorkeling, diving, and exploring the stunning natural landscapes.

  • Dry Season (May to October): The dry season  coincides with Fiji’s peak tourist season, meaning you can expect a lively atmosphere, with numerous events and activities to partake in. However, this surge in tourism may lead to crowded resorts and higher accommodation prices.

  • Wet Season (November to March): While the wet season brings higher rainfall and humidity, it can also be a great time for budget travelers. Accommodation prices drop significantly, and the lush landscapes become even more vibrant. That said, travelers should be prepared for the possibility of tropical storms and plan activities accordingly.

  • Shoulder Months (April and November): If you’re looking to avoid the hustle and bustle while still enjoying delightful weather, the shoulder months of April and November can be excellent alternatives. These months offer mild temperatures and fewer visitors, allowing you to explore Fiji’s breathtaking scenery and vibrant culture without the crowds.

Essential Fiji Travel Tips

  • Currency: The Fijian dollar (FJD) is the local currency. Credit cards are widely accepted, but it’s advisable to carry some cash for local markets and villages.

  • Health & Safety: Make sure to stay hydrated and use sunscreen. Although Fiji is considered safe for tourists, always be vigilant and take standard safety precautions.

  • Respect Local Customs: Dress modestly when visiting villages, and always ask permission before taking photos of locals.

  • Languages: Fijians largely speak English and Fijian. The Fijian greeting is “Bula.”
