How long can I stay in New Zealand with a US passport?
Home / New Zealand FAQs / How long can I stay in New Zealand with a US passport?
US citizens can stay in New Zealand for up to 90 days (approximately three months) under the visa waiver program, provided you have obtained the required NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority). Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your intended departure date from New Zealand. The NZeTA remains valid for two years, allowing multiple visits of up to 90 days each during that period.
If you wish to stay longer than 90 days, you’ll need to apply for a different visa type before arrival. Extensions beyond 90 days while in New Zealand are generally not granted for tourists. Most travelers find 10-21 days sufficient to experience New Zealand’s highlights across both islands, though three months allows for truly comprehensive exploration.
