"We just finished four wonderful weeks in Australia and New Zealand and it could not have gone more smoothly. Roslyn did a superb job with every detail of our trip. She listened to what we were wanting on the trip and planned with those things in mind. We saw all the things we asked for, and also some things we didn't know that we needed to see. The transfers went smoothly and we loved all of her arrangements. The hotels were nice and exactly the kind of hotels we asked for. Planning a trip like this can be overwhelming, but she took the worry out of it and we were able to enjoy a beautiful vacation!"

"I really enjoyed our Australia vacation booked with About Australia! Everything was covered to make our vacation experience enjoyable including updated vacation communications, itineraries, and updates. Hotels, excursions, and recommendations, and transportation were included which made our trip pretty much stress free and enjoyable. This was our first trip to Australia and we enjoyed this introductory visit. We would definitely consider traveling again someday to Australia and using your company to assist us with future vacation planning."

"Stephanie is a great. She handled all the trip planning. She handled a 'hiccup' with transport without hesitation. A planned tour was cancelled and a credit was given to our credit card.. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend About Australia to anyone considering traveling to New Zealand and/or Australia. It was a wonderful worry vacation."

Day 2 packs in the Opera House guided tour, where you’ll see the controversial history, six performance venues, and Utzon Room, followed by a full-day Harbour Express hop-on hop-off cruise: Fort Denison, Taronga Zoo, Watson’s Bay, and Circular Quay, all in one pass. Day 3 is free for you to explore Sydney. Venture into Bondi Beach, the Bondi-to-Bronte coastal walk, the Manly ferry, or The Rocks village with its 70+ boutiques, galleries, heritage pubs, and weekend market. Optional add-ons (not included):
  • Hunter Valley Wine Tour — Private tastings at Leogate Estate, McGuigan, and Roche Estate with a local produce lunch (Sundays, Tuesdays & Fridays).

Days 4 – 5: Indian Pacific: Sydney → Adelaide Board the Indian Pacific at Sydney’s Central Station and settle into your Gold Kangaroo cabin, with private en-suite, complimentary toiletries, meals, and journey commentary all included. Traveling between the Pacific and Indian Oceans across 4,352 km of continent, this train has connected Australia for over 40 years. Why this is special: The Sydney–Adelaide leg captures the drama of the Blue Mountains, the vast Outback plains, and the rolling approach into the Barossa hinterland, all from the comfort of a private cabin with meals and drinks included. Days 5 – 7: Adelaide & Kangaroo Island, South Australia Arrive into Adelaide’s boutique 4-star city-center hotel and spend your first evening exploring the café-lined streets. Days 6 and 7 are devoted to a two-day Kangaroo Island overnight tour, one of the most immersive wildlife experiences in Australia. On day 6, enjoy a scenic coach through the Fleurieu Peninsula to the Sealink ferry, then the eucalyptus oil distillery, a two-course lunch, a guided beach walk with a National Parks Ranger among wild Australian sea lions at Seal Bay, a Birds of Prey display, and a hands-on session at Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park (koalas, penguins, kangaroos, snakes, and crocodiles). On day 7, experience a Clifford’s Honey Farm tasting, a two-course Hanson Bay lunch, then Flinders Chase National Park for the Remarkable Rocks and Admiral’s Arch fur seal colony before ferrying back to Adelaide. Days 8 – 9: The Ghan – Adelaide → Alice Springs Board The Ghan in Adelaide and ride north through the night as the lush green of South Australia gives way to the extraordinary rust-red vastness of the Northern Territory. Arrive in Alice Springs in the morning, having crossed climates, time zones, and landscapes that most Australians will never witness. Upgrade to Gold Premium or Platinum Sleeper Cabins available on request. A unique achievement on this itinerary: Riding both the Indian Pacific and The Ghan in one trip means you’ve crossed Australia east-to-west and south-to-north by rail, a feat most Australians never accomplish in a lifetime. Days 9 – 11: Alice Springs & Uluru, Red Centre Arrive in Alice Springs with time to explore — the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Alice Springs Telegraph Station, Reptile Centre, and the story of the Arrernte people who have called this land home for 20,000 years. Day 10, board a luxury air-conditioned coach for the scenic Red Centre transfer to Ayers Rock Resort, passing the dramatic flat-topped mesa of Mt Conner through the MacDonnell Ranges. Two nights at your 4.5-star desert resort unlock a full Uluru & Kata Tjuta tour pass: Day 10 afternoon brings a guided drive to Walpa Gorge and wine and canapes at the Uluru sunset viewing area. On Day 11, wake before dawn for tea and coffee as the monolith comes alive with sunrise color, followed by a cultural base walk covering Anangu geology, legend, and the sacred Mutitjulu Waterhole. Optional add-ons (not included):
  • Sounds of Silence Dinner — Didgeridoo welcome, Outback canapés at sunset, a three-course bush tucker buffet (kangaroo, emu, barramundi), and a guided astronomer tour of the southern sky. One of Australia’s most celebrated dining experiences.

Day 14 is free to explore the Esplanade lagoon, night markets, Cairns’ award-winning Bushfire Flame Grill, and a café scene that punches well above its size. Optional add-ons (not included):

Days 15 – 16: Brisbane – Australia Zoo & the Glasshouse Mountains Fly from Cairns to Brisbane for two nights in a city-center hotel steps from Queen Street Mall, South Bank Parklands, and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. Day 16 takes you north along the scenic Glasshouse Mountains route to Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo, nearly six hours of shows, demonstrations, and animal encounters. Watch wild crocodile demonstrations and birds of prey displays, hand-feed kangaroos and wallabies, get close to koalas, and see the otters, camels, foxes, and hundreds of other species. Don’t miss the Crocoseum Wildlife Show! Day 17: Depart Brisbane to Los Angeles Shuttle to Brisbane International Airport for your midday flight home to Los Angeles. The Indian Pacific Train

The Indian Pacific is one of the world’s great train journeys, operated by Journey Beyond Rail Expeditions. It takes its name from the two oceans it connects — the Indian Ocean in the west and the Pacific Ocean in the east. The train offers an iconic, all-inclusive rail experience through the heart of Australia, complete with comfortable sleeper cabins, restaurant dining, and off-train excursions at key destinations along the route.

Where does the Indian Pacific go?

The Indian Pacific travels between Sydney on Australia’s east coast and Perth on the west coast, crossing the entire continent. The train passes through the Blue Mountains, the vast Nullarbor Plain, and the South Australian outback, covering approximately 2,704 miles of spectacular Australian landscape.

Where does the Indian Pacific stop?

The Indian Pacific makes several stops along its transcontinental route. Key stops include Sydney (New South Wales), Broken Hill (New South Wales), Adelaide (South Australia), Cook (South Australia), Rawlinna (Western Australia), Kalgoorlie (Western Australia), and Perth (Western Australia). These stopovers offer passengers the chance to explore outback towns, historic sites, and iconic Australian landscapes.

Is there WiFi on the Indian Pacific train?

The Indian Pacific does not offer onboard WiFi. The train travels through some of Australia’s most remote regions, including the vast Nullarbor Plain, where connectivity is extremely limited. However, the journey is designed to be a digital detox of sorts. Passengers are encouraged to disconnect and fully immerse themselves in the breathtaking scenery and the unique onboard experience.
