4-Day Gold Coast Itinerary Overview
Day one is all about settling in. Get your bearings in Surfers Paradise with a relaxed beach day, or head up to SkyPoint for sweeping coastal views paired with food and drinks.
Day two is wildlife day at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, home to native Australian animals and one of the few remaining places in Queensland where visitors can hold a koala.
Day three heads inland to the Gold Coast hinterland. Food and wine lovers can spend the day exploring Tamborine Mountain’s rainforest walks, coffee plantations, and vineyards, while nature lovers can venture further into Springbrook or Lamington National Parks, or head back out in the evening for a rainforest walk to spot glow worms.
Day four turns local. Start the morning on the water with a jet boat ride, an amphibious city tour, or a cruise through the Gold Coast waterways, then spend the afternoon shopping at Pacific Fair or exploring the beach neighborhoods of Broadbeach, Burleigh, Coolangatta, or Tallebudgera Creek.

Tip: Keep your schedule flexible. Some of the best Gold Coast moments happen when you’re just wandering the Burleigh headland or catching an extra hour on the beach before dinner.

Arrival and Getting Around
Getting to the Gold Coast is straightforward from an international flight into Brisbane or Gold Coast Airport.
One of our recommendations is to fly Fiji Airways from the U.S. to Gold Coast. Fiji Airways offers convenient routing via Nadi, which breaks up the long haul flight in two and gives you the chance to stretch your legs. It’s a comfortable way to start your journey straight from the U.S. to Queensland.
Once you’re on the coast, the G:Link tram is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to get around. It runs along the coastline connecting Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, and Southport, making it simple to hop between neighborhoods without worrying about parking.
Rideshare and taxis are also widely available, and many hinterland and wildlife experiences include hotel pickup, which takes the logistics off your plate entirely.
Day 1: Arrival and Surfers Paradise

Ease into your Gold Coast trip with a day built around Surfers Paradise, the coast’s most iconic stretch of sand and skyline.
Surfers Paradise Beach
After settling into your hotel, head straight for the beach. Surfers Paradise’s wide stretch of golden sand is the perfect place to shake off jet lag, get your bearings, and watch the surf. It’s also a great first taste of the laid-back Gold Coast lifestyle you’ll be soaking up for the next four days.
SkyPoint Q1
If you’d rather start with a view, ride the elevator up SkyPoint Q1, one of the tallest residential towers in the Southern Hemisphere. From the observation deck, you’ll get sweeping views stretching from the hinterland mountains to the coastline below. Pair your visit with food and drinks at the on-site bar for a relaxed way to take in the scenery.

Day 1 – Where to Eat
Surfers Paradise has no shortage of dining options right along the beachfront. For a laid-back dinner with ocean views, try one of the restaurants along the Esplanade. If you’re craving something more upscale, head to one of the rooftop bars for coastal fare and cocktails as the sun goes down.
Day 2: Wildlife at Currumbin

Dedicate your second day to Australian wildlife at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the true highlights of any Gold Coast trip.
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary
Currumbin is home to native Australian species including kangaroos, koalas, wombats, and a huge variety of birdlife, all set within lush parkland just minutes from the beach.
Wander the walking trails at your own pace, hand-feed free-roaming kangaroos in the open-air enclosure, and don’t miss the Lorikeet Feeding sessions, a Gold Coast tradition where hundreds of wild rainbow lorikeets swoop in for a feed.
The real highlight, though, is the koala experience. Currumbin is one of the few remaining places in Queensland where you can still hold a koala for a photo, a genuinely special encounter that’s becoming rarer across the state. Be sure to book your koala encounter experience ahead of time, as spots can quickly sell out!
Give yourself at least half a day here to see the sanctuary properly, longer if you want to catch multiple keeper talks and feeding sessions throughout the day.
Day 2 – Where to Eat
Currumbin and neighboring Palm Beach have a growing café and restaurant scene worth exploring after your sanctuary visit. Look for a relaxed café near Currumbin Beach for a late lunch, or head slightly north to Burleigh Heads for dinner if you’re staying nearby.
Day 3: Gold Coast Hinterland

Trade the coastline for rainforest on day three. The Gold Coast hinterland feels worlds away from the beach, with subtropical rainforest, waterfalls, and mountain views just a short drive inland.
How you spend the day depends on what draws you most: food and wine, or nature and wildlife.
For Food and Wine Lovers: Tamborine Mountain
If you love a good glass of wine with your scenery, spend the day exploring Tamborine Mountain.
A full day up here typically includes a guided rainforest walk to a spring-fed waterfall, a stop at a working coffee plantation for a fresh brew, lunch at a scenic vineyard restaurant with a glass of local wine included, and free time to browse the boutiques, galleries, and artisan shops along the famous Gallery Walk village.
Many day trips also include a stop at Tamborine Mountain’s oldest distillery for a spirits tasting. It’s a relaxed, flavor-forward way to experience the hinterland without needing to plan the logistics yourself.

For Nature Lovers: Springbrook or Lamington National Parks
If wildlife and wilderness are more your speed, Springbrook and Lamington National Parks are both part of the Gondwana Rainforests, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed ecosystem.
Springbrook is known for its waterfalls and ancient rock formations, including the Natural Bridge, a rock arch carved by a waterfall that flows into a glowworm-lit cave.
Lamington offers rainforest walking trails, canopy views, and wildlife encounters, often paired with a stop at a historic mountain lodge.
Evening Option: Rainforest and Glow Worms
For a completely different perspective on the hinterland, consider heading back out after dark for an evening rainforest walk.
As dusk falls over Tamborine National Park, guided torchlight walks lead through the rainforest to spot glow worms illuminating the rock face near a waterfall, along with other nocturnal wildlife like pademelons and frogs.
Most evening tours include a relaxed stop for cake and a hot drink at a mountaintop café before the walk. It’s a magical, low-key way to end a hinterland day and a nice option if you’d rather not pack everything into a single daytime outing.
Tip: The hinterland is noticeably cooler than the coast, especially in the evening. Bring a light jacket even if you’ve been in shorts and a t-shirt all day at the beach.

Day 3 – Where to Eat
If you’re spending the day on Tamborine Mountain, lunch is typically built into your day at a local vineyard restaurant. If you’re exploring Springbrook or Lamington independently, pack a picnic or plan to eat before or after your national park visit, as dining options directly within the parks are limited.
Back on the coast in the evening, Burleigh Heads and Broadbeach both offer excellent dinner options to wind down the day.
Day 4: Waterways and Local Neighborhoods

Your final day is all about experiencing the Gold Coast the way locals do: on the water in the morning, then wandering one of the coast’s beach neighborhoods in the afternoon.
Morning on the Water
Start the day with a Gold Coast waterways experience. Options range from a high-speed jet boat ride, to a city tour aboard an amphibious “duck” vehicle that transitions seamlessly from land to water, to a more relaxed river cruise.
Whichever you choose, you’ll get a totally different view of the Gold Coast, cruising past waterfront mansions, superyachts, and the Surfers Paradise skyline from the Broadwater. Keep an eye out for dolphins, which are frequently spotted in these waters.
Afternoon: Shop or Explore a Beach Neighborhood
With the morning’s adventure behind you, the afternoon is yours to spend however you like.
If shopping is calling, head to Pacific Fair in Broadbeach, one of the largest shopping centers in Queensland, with a mix of Australian and international brands.
If you’d rather stay outdoors, use the afternoon to explore one of the Gold Coast’s beach neighborhoods:
- Broadbeach for a polished, walkable beachfront with cafes, restaurants, and easy tram access.
- Burleigh Heads for the headland walk, tide pools, and a laid-back village vibe.
- Coolangatta for a classic surf-town feel right on the Queensland-New South Wales border.
- Tallebudgera Creek for calm, family-friendly swimming in a protected creek setting, a nice contrast to the open ocean.

Day 4 – Where to Eat
For your last night, treat yourself somewhere you’ll remember. In Broadbeach, look for a seafood restaurant along the beachfront strip. In Burleigh Heads, seek out a spot with headland or ocean views for sunset.
Wherever you land, it’s the perfect way to close out four days that took you from the beach to the rainforest and back again.
Gold Coast Travel Tips
- Book your Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary koala experience and any hinterland tours in advance, especially during Australian school holidays, to guarantee availability.
- The G:Link tram makes getting between Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, and Southport easy without needing a rental car for your whole stay.
- Pack layers. The coast is warm and sunny, but the hinterland runs noticeably cooler, especially after dark.
- If you only have time for one wildlife experience on the Gold Coast, make it Currumbin. Few places left in Queensland offer a genuine koala-holding experience.
- Keep at least one afternoon unstructured. Some of the best memories come from an extra hour at the beach or a wander through Burleigh you didn’t plan for.
